Family History Thursday

Good Morning! Well I sure hope it is for everyone.
In researching your family history do you search just your immediate lines or do you search the collateral lines?

Collateral lines are the lines that are from aunts, uncles, siblings and so on. I know many researchers that do just immediate lines and truthfully I feel sorry for them. They are missing out on a lot of information, stories, and possible documents and photographs,

While researching my Great Great Grandmother Josephine (Nelson) Hodgett, I came across a wonderful lady researching her mother's sister. I emailed her and we shared information as this wonderful lady did not know where George and Sarah (Josephine's Parents) had went when they left Wisconsin. In the process of researching this collateral line I received many documents such as copies of wills from
Sarah's siblings that stayed in Wisconsin. I also received photographs of Sarah's parents. I was thrilled to death to receive pictures of my 4th great grandparents.

I received copies of George's Bible that i did not know existed from another source while searching collateral lines. In this information we were able to determine that information on the net was wrong on who George's mother was. If I had not researched these collateral lines I would have missed these awesome photos and documents.

So when you are researching, if you do not research collateral lines, you might consider taking that one night and checking on who might be searching the same family. Email them you may find many hidden treasures by sharing.
